“British Shipping” calls for providing more security for the Gulf merchant ships.

The chief executive of the British Chamber of Shipping said Friday (July 19th) that more protection measures should be provided for merchant ships after the Iranian Revolutionary Guard seized a tanker flying the British flag in the Strait of Hormuz. “We condemn in the strongest terms the detention of Sina Impero as it crossed the Strait of Hormuz earlier today,” Bob Sanguinetti said in a statement. “This incident constitutes an escalation. As we call for a calculated response … more measures must be taken to protect merchant ships to ensure enhanced security and freedom of trade flow in the region,” he added.
